Tom Holland, the actor who has portrayed Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) for five years and four movies, has disclosed the only condition that would make him reprise his role as the web-slinging superhero.
#1. Tom Holland’s Journey as Spider-Man
Holland made his debut as Spider-Man in Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War in 2016, where he joined forces with Iron Man and other heroes in a clash over the Sokovia Accords. He then starred in three solo movies, Spider-Man: Homecoming, Spider-Man: Far From Home, and Spider-Man: No Way Home, which concluded his trilogy in 2021.
Holland’s portrayal of Spider-Man has been widely praised by fans and critics alike, as he captured the essence of the character’s youthful charm, humor, and heroism. He also appeared in other MCU movies, such as Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, where he played a pivotal role in the fight against Thanos.
However, since the release of Spider-Man: No Way Home, which was a massive box office and critical success, there has been no official announcement about Holland’s future as Spider-Man. Fans have been eagerly waiting for any news about a possible sequel or a new contract between Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios, which share the rights to the character.
#2. Tom Holland’s Condition for Returning as Spider-Man
While Holland has confirmed that he has discussed the possibility of a fourth Spider-Man movie with the producers, he has also made it clear that he is not willing to return to the role without a good reason.
During a press conference with the Critics Choice Association, Holland said: “All I can say is that we have been actively engaging in conversations about what it could potentially look like for a fourth rendition of my character. Whether or not we can find a way to do justice to the character is another thing.”
Holland explained that he feels ‘very protective over Spider-Man’, adding: “I feel very, very lucky that we were able to work on a franchise that got better with each movie, that got more successful with each movie, which I think is really rare, and I want to protect his legacy. So, I won’t make another one for the sake of making another one.”
Instead, Holland has one condition for making a new Spider-Man film: “It will have to be worth the while of the character.”
This means that Holland is not interested in playing Spider-Man just for the sake of money or fame, but rather for the sake of telling a compelling and meaningful story that honors the character and his fans.
Holland also expressed his love for the character and the people he works with, saying: “That said, if we can figure that out, I would be a fool not to put the suit back on again because I owe everything to Spider-Man. I love the character and the people I get to work with. So, I would love to tell another story, but I’ll only tell it if we can find the right one”.

While fans are hoping that Holland will return as Spider-Man for a fourth movie, they can also enjoy his other projects in the meantime. Holland has recently starred in the AppleTV+ series The Crowded Room, where he plays Billy Milligan, a man with multiple personality disorder who was the first person to use this condition as a defense in a court of law.
Holland has also been cast as Nathan Drake in the upcoming movie adaptation of the popular video game series Uncharted, where he will play a treasure hunter and adventurer. The movie is set to be released in February 2024.
Holland is also rumored to be involved in other projects, such as a biopic of Fred Astaire, a thriller with Daisy Ridley, and a drama with Benedict Cumberbatch.
Tom Holland has proven himself to be a versatile and talented actor, who can take on different roles and genres. However, for many fans, he will always be Spider-Man, and they are hoping that he will swing back to the big screen soon.
