#1. How Macaulay Culkin Reprised His Role as Kevin McCallister

Macaulay Culkin, who starred as Kevin McCallister in the 1990 movie Home Alone, returned to his role in a Google commercial from 2018. The commercial has become popular again on social media, as people love to see Culkin relive some of the classic scenes from the movie.
Culkin finds the house deserted and wonders: “Mom? Dad? Hey Google what’s on the calendar today?” Google’s home assistant informs him: “You have one event called ‘House to Yourself’”.
Culkin’s grown-up Kevin then does what he did when he was a little boy in the movie: he has a blast by himself. Being home alone means having time to shave yourself. Older Kevin, unlike younger Kevin who used cream on his face and felt a burning sensation, has no aftershave left and asks Google to buy some more. He jumps on the bed quickly - a famous scene from the 1990 movie - and tells Google to ‘remind [him] to clean these sheets later’.

He watches Angels with Filthy Souls, a movie he also watched when he was a kid, and uses a line from it to talk to the pizza delivery guy - but this time, he doesn’t scare him away. He enjoys eating ice cream and other snacks, just like he did in the original film.
Kevin also encounters his parents’ furnace, which he used to be afraid of, and asks his home assistant to ‘turn the temperature down two degrees’.
When he sees the robbers outside, he is about to eat his mac ‘n’ cheese, just like before. He tells his Google device to ‘begin Operation Kevin’, which triggers a bunch of homemade traps to frighten the robbers. He uses a cut-out on a toy train and a mop with a robot vacuum to make it look like someone is home. Kevin is older, but he hasn’t lost his cleverness. The commercial ends with: “Make Google do it.”

The ad was first shown in 2018, but it’s becoming as popular as the 1990 film it is based on. Historic Vids, an account on Twitter, shared the clip again and people loved the ad’s creativity. They were happy to see one of their favorite Christmas actors - who will soon get a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame - on screen again. It was a great Christmas gift for them.
One user wrote: “What a great commercial. It reminds me of the original film when I was a kid.” “His back hurts when he jumps on the bed. That’s so funny and true!” Another said. A third wrote: “He finally ate the Mac n cheese.” And a fourth said: “I watched his movies every Christmas when I grew up. They always make me feel good.”
It’s time to watch some festive movies!
#4. Why Macaulay Culkin’s Commercial is a Brilliant Marketing Strategy
The commercial not only brings back the nostalgia of Home Alone, but also showcases the features and benefits of Google’s products. By using Culkin as the spokesperson, Google appeals to the generation that grew up with the movie and now has the purchasing power to buy its devices. The commercial also demonstrates how Google’s home assistant, smart speaker, and other gadgets can make life easier and more fun, especially when you are home alone. The commercial is a clever way to connect with the audience, create a buzz, and promote the brand. It’s no wonder that the ad has over 90 million views on YouTube.
