Where the Season 4 finale left off, the Season 5 trailer picks up immediately. It starts with Midge having a moment of realization while moving through New York. She is aware that a strategically placed billboard for The Gordon Ford Show has made her perfectly prepared to advance to fame and success. Midge, however, runs into all the issues that always come with stardom just when things seemed like they could only get better. She could become dejected, but soon she would pick herself up and continue on like the witty and resilient Midge she has always been.

In the trailer, Midge also runs into her ex-lover from Season 4. When Midge learned that she had accidentally become the "other woman" in his marriage, their relationship came to an end.
